
A recent survey by Eurobarometer, the public opinion research function of the European Commission, found that 96 percent of Europeans say that protecting the environment is important for them personally, and that 75 percent are ready to buy environmentally-friendly products even if they cost more.
Other findings: 59 percent of Europeans separate their waste for recycling, and 47 percent have reduced their energy consumption. However, only 17 percent regularly buy products featuring an environmental label.
Survey results on some questions are delineated by individual member states. For example, on the issue of personal concern over environmental matters. the citizens of Cyprus had the highest rating, and Finnish citizens had the lowest.
