On 1 September 2008 Grønn Hverdag (GAP Norway) is launching a new web-based tool to encourage individuals to contribute to reducing climate change. www.klimaklubben.no is a web site built on experience and methods that Grønn Hverdag has developed over 17 years, combined with new technology – adapted to our new digital lifestyles. We expect to get the best of both worlds, using the web as a channel for our successful behaviour change methods.
”Klimaklubben” is an interactive program to help users adopt more sustainable lifestyles. It is unlike other Norwegian initiatives in that it focuses on behaviour and lifestyle changes. One source of inspiration has been the existing programs for behaviour change via the web, for example for smokers and for weight reduction. The pedagogy also builds on principles established in learning, motivation, and behaviour-change theory, as well as empowering coaching.
”Klimaklubben” consists both of an individual lifestyle-change program, and a web community. It could be said to be a cross between the EcoTeam program, and web sites like Weightwatchers and Facebook. The Ministry of the Environment is sponoring its development, and sees it as a national tool to be offered by public agencies to the general public, to support behaviour change. Major business partners are also involved.
Grønn Hverdag is also inviting all Norwegian municipalities to join this exciting project – completely free of charge. Each municipality is invited to add its own page: name, logo, information about what the municipality can offer in the way of support to residents interested in sustainable lifestyles, and also what expectations the local authority has in regard to residents’ behaviour.
”Klimaklubben” will be launched through our own network, comprising nearly one million email address, as well as through the web site of VG, Norway’s largest daily paper; the site is one of Norway’s most popular, with 1.3 million visitors every day. Within a year we expect at least 250 000 visitors and 30 000 registered participants.
