On 11 and 12 February 2025, the kick-off meeting of the GoodFood – Sustainability in Catering Schools project, co-funded by the EU Erasmus Plus programme – Vocational Education Training, was held in Munich. The project aims to create resources and teaching materials to help catering schools integrate the topic of sustainability into the curriculum, to foster the development of knowledge and skills on health, environment, waste, ethics and culture in food for future chefs.
GoodFood aims at:
- helping students develop and integrate sustainable habits in their activities at school, in extracurricular projects and in the future workplace
- supporting teachers in enriching their curriculum by exploring topics such as empowerment, behavior change and conscious choice, with a critical approach to addressing food issues in a holistic manner
- supporting managers and staff in developing strategies and perspectives based on an equitable and sustainable food system that can overcome existing barriers and support the educational experience of students.
The four members of Global Action Plan International (formerly part of the Erasmus+ Foodtalks project dedicated to sustainability in the catering sector), agado (DE), Global Action Plan Netherland (NL), InEuropa (IT) and Global Action Plan España (ES) were present and worked intensively. The other project partners, the hotel management schools Berufsschulzentrum Ansbach-Triesdorf (DE), Ies Escuela De Hosteleria De Leioa (ES), Regionaal Onderwijs Centrum Noordoost-Brabant (NL), and the Fondazione Castello di Padernello (IT), participated in an online kick-off meeting on 29 January. The two-day presence in Munich was the perfect opportunity to strengthen coordination between the members of GAP I, aligning and sharing suggestions, doubts, ideas, discussing project tasks and responsibilities, and laying the foundations for better cooperation.
The meeting, coordinated by agado and Global Action Plan Netherland, opened with a sharing of the roles of each partner within the project, exploring the different Work Packages and activities, and then moving on to work on the strengths of each partner and the competences of the schools involved, to understand the gaps to be addressed during the project, the values that will guide us and the methodologies we are going to adopt. On the second day, we focused more on the management, communication and dissemination part and on planning key moments (such as the transnational training event which will take place in the Netherlands in October) and planning the next steps.
We are ready to face the next two years with enthusiasm and dedication and these two days have confirmed this.
