A few days ago, the message arrived that Bessie Schadee, founder of Global Action Plan the Netherlands, has passed away. We remember her as a strong woman with a great drive to change the world. She has inspired many of us to take a stand for what we believe in.
In 1989 Bessie and David Gershon were the founders of Global Action Plan in the United States and the Netherlands. The first design for a ‘household EcoTeam programme’ was presented at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. The programme was conceived to involve everyday people in creating solutions to environmental problems.
The voice of indigenous people, so close to Bessie’s heart, needs to be heard even more, as their connection to the earth and finding back our worldwide balance is so important. And healthy soils, for which Bessie also stood strong, are so needed as the basis of Life on Earth.
We will continue to work on Bessie’s vision with great energy and dedication.
Bessie, we will miss you.
