Make Education Not War Initiative

The Make Education Not War (MENW) initiative was founded in March 2022 in response to Ukrainian teachers and students who have been affected by the Russian invasion. MENW was guided by a Steering Group of representatives across GAP UK, agado (Germany), GAP Spain, Legacy 17 (Sweden) and one GAP-I Associate Member. It was led from the start by two of the teachers who were members of the ESDA network.

The third and last round of activities took place in 2024. Activities consisted of a series of online trauma support and pedagogical support sessions for teachers, and a series of Saturday Team sessions (online in 2022 and 2023, in-person in 2024) during which these teachers met with their students. As a consequence of the war, many teachers and students had become displaced across Ukraine and countries across Europe and North America.

The attached report describes the MENW activities and their reach during the years 2022-24. It also describes the way the initiative was governed and funded (thanks to 60 donors). Take a look at our report to find out more about the impacts of this meaningful project.
