There is a special role for university campuses in putting sustainability into practice and making it more widespread.
As Mikado Impact, we supported the expansion of the ATTUNE Project designed to mobilise universities in the fight against climate change. Following its pilot implementation at Özyeğin University, we supported the project’s expansion this year to Istanbul University, one of the biggest and oldest universities in Türkiye.
At Istanbul University Avcılar Campus, we embarked on a sustainability journey between March and June, with the active participation and leadership of the University’s Sustainability Team (newly established through the project) and students from different departments who are passionate about sustainability. With the closing workshop we held on 10 June, an important milestone of the project was completed.
Three student groups came together through three in-person workshops and one online gathering, and began putting a range of actions into practice across their campus. The actions range from water management through collecting rain water, awareness raising through posters and signs throughout the campus on faculty buildings’ energy consumption, and the last one is a ‘living campus’ concept where students are motivated to convene more often and socialize.
