Empowering Inclusive Climate Action
Across the globe, individuals and communities are uniting in the fight for climate justice, demanding fair and urgent action to address the impacts of climate change on people and the planet. This movement calls for solutions that not only protect the environment but also uphold equality and human rights. Yet the voices of individuals with disabilities are often missing from these critical conversations, even though they are among those most affected.
The new project ‘ChangeABLE – Out and About for Climate Ability’, funded by the Erasmus + programme of the European Union, aims to put individuals with disabilities at the center of climate advocacy.
The project team consists of one GAP International member and one organisation working directly with individuals with disabilities in each of the three partner countries: in Ireland, Global Action Plan Ireland and Prosper Group; in Italy, InEuropa and COOPATTIVA Cooperativa Sociale Onlus; and in Germany, agado – Gesellschaft für nachhaltige Entwicklung and die reha e.V..
Over the next 3 years, they will work across three countries to:
• Carry out a needs assessment to better understand training and support needs.
• Deliver tailored training programs to strengthen advocacy and campaigning skills.
• Co-create inclusive climate campaigns based on local priorities and lived experiences.
The project will ultimately foster participation of the target group in public forums and community events, creating more opportunities for individuals with disabilities to share their perspectives and lead on inclusive climate solutions.
